The wallpaper you use on your home screen is one popular way to personalize your device. Planes, trains, automobiles, and family pets all make great wallpapers, but what if you want something with a little more pizazz? Live wallpapers are great for this and give you wallpapers with video and animation. Here are a few Live wallpaper apps to help add a little “pop” to your home screen:
3D Aquarium Live Wallpaper HD
3D Aquarium Live Wallpaper is a soothing wallpaper depicting an underwater oasis for fish and other marine life. The app achieves the stunning 3D effects using the Open GL graphics engine. Swiping left and right on the device moves you around the scene and the 3D parallax effect gives a strong sense of immersion in the environment. The scene options are limited to turning on notifications and sound. It would have been nice to see options for the number of fish on the screen or different background images.
Weather Live Wallpapers⛅Current forecast on screen
Live weather wallpaper is a great way to quickly find out the weather without having to open an app, just look at your phone screen. Weather Live Wallpapers provides you numerous default scenes with additional scenes available with the Pro version of the app. By default, the weather is pulled from METAR, but Dark Sky and Weather Underground weather sources are also provided. In order to minimize battery drain, there are settings to configure brightness, notifications and the number of particles (raindrops, petals and other objects)
Video Live Wallpaper
Video wallpaper is unique in that it lets you use your own videos for your live wallpaper. Videos must be in 3GPP (.3gp) or MPEG-4 (.mp4) format. I found that videos in portrait mode played better for me, but the app does provide the option to keep the aspect ration so videos taken in landscape mode still look good. Additional configuration options include looping the video, playing the video offscreen and playing the audio from the video.
Live Wallpapers 3D–Animated AMOLED 4D Backgrounds
Live Wallpapers 3D provides you with a variety of 3D wallpapers with 4D depth effects without taking a hit on battery consumptions. Many of the included AMOLED wallpapers have a minimum battery usage below 2%. To see the 4D depth effect, simply tilt your device and the motion sensors (gyroscope or accelerometer) make it appear that the object is moving. Wallpapers are frequently added to the app and you can select from categories including Anime, Space, Nature scenes and Animals.
Glowing live wallpaper
Glowing wallpaper gives you bright and exciting wallpapers. You are given several backgrounds to select as well as visual elements that look like stars to add to your wallpaper. If the constant moving of these elements is distracting, there is a ‘simple wallpaper’ option that creates a static image as your wallpaper. One feature I thought was pretty cool was tapping on an element resulted in that element randomly changing color or shape. However, the frequent ad promos was a little disappointing to see and diminish the experience.
